A Glimpse Of Her! (Episode 1)

Image
It was not clear when the crises started, but somehow it was known that at some point she had become ‘the battered Christian’. However, the story started much earlier than that. Here’s what happened. Casey had grown up as an only child and had secretly longed to have a brother or sister with whom to play. When this did not happen, she craved attention from her parents; which they were unable to give her due to their very busy working life. As a result, Casey spent many hours alone in her room with only her toys for comfort. School life was equally lonely. Being slightly small for her age, she was picked on by the other children. Soon this turned to bullying when they realised that she did not stand up to them or fight back when they harassed her. With no one to play with at school and a lonely home life, she began to feel bad about herself. Although she was a bright girl, she would often hold back in school and not answer the questions even when she knew the answers as this would...

A Glimpse Of Her! (A sneak peak)

Image
Hi, I go by the name Mary and I am so much elated today. Yes. Because finally, I get to give you a birds eye view of the much anticipated masterpiece which couldn’t have gotten a better title, A Glimpse of Her. I am sure a lot of thoughts will be running through your mind trying to guess what this whole a glimpse of her is about. Who are we going to take a glimpse of? Some of you will ask. So chill, cos I gat you. A glimpse of her is a work of fiction inspired by the Living Word of God. The interesting part of this story is that it strikes a chord with most Christians. It is a story of you. It is a story of a friend. It is a story of your next door neighbor. So without wasting much time, I would give you a sneak peek into this story... A glimpse of her revolves around a beautiful and a bright lady called Casey. At some point she was known as the battered lady and we see her navigating the ebbs and flows of life. This lady Casey had been given so much prophecies in lif...

Have you ever been somewhere going through a book or doing some stuff and got a whiff of something, and suddenly your brain zooms back to a specific memory from the 1990s that you haven't thought of since? That's exactly what happened to me a few days ago. I had an encounter that made me look in retrospect where the journey of my becoming all began. I picked up my phone, diary etc. and went in search of the ancient landmark to trace the things I've done and the ones I'm yet to do. In case you don't know, tracing an ancient landmark is about revisiting the makeup of a foundation. Every September, I cast my mind back to check where I was, where I am and where I need to be as I add a year to my years.  I followed through to see the battles fought and won, the errors to be corrected, the secret and public wins and damn! I knew I had grown into that woman I once admired.  All I could do was to take a deep breath and get ready for the next 365 days.  Oops! I didn't ...

“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐪𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.” — Benjamin Disraeli. Quotes have long been a great source of inspiration for me. That is why I keep a journal dedicated to just quotes. You should give it a try.  In this article, I want to share with you five easy-to-memorize quotes with really profound lessons.  📍"𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒖𝒕.” — Albert Einstein. This quote reminds me of the saying that everything is built twice, first in the mind and then in reality. The mind is indeed a very powerful place. Every success or failure begins with the mind. As a result, any change you seek to make must be achieved, first, in your imagination (mind) before you can work it out in reality. What you cannot behold, you cannot become. If y...

What Is In Your Basket?

Image
I was at the mall few weeks ago to get some groceries and toiletries that were needed at home. After picking up the things I needed, I stood in the queue, waiting for my turn to make payment. While I was there, a young lady came and joined the queue but I noticed something. 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴. She did this thrice. It was weird at first but then, I realized she was weighing the content of my cart and hers.  I didn't understand why someone would do something like that but just then, this question popped up in my head: "𝙄𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙤 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙙𝙖𝙮? 𝙐𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨" Her basket contained few items while mine was full but here's the thing: She and I came from different places with different needs but somehow on seeing my basket, she, for a moment, 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐫...

Let Your Eyes Be Single!

Image
Let your eyes be single!⁣ ⁣ I know that feeling of being tempted to back out, especially due to social media pressure.⁣ Everyone here seems to have it all figured out.⁣ ⁣ Just when you switch on your data, your news feed is flooded with speaking gigs, scholarships, certifications, national/international awards, evidence of huge sales and the rest.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ At the sight of those wins, your heart palpitates. You whiff into a state of depression and wonder how "experts" get effortless results without pain while you keep getting rejections and disappointments.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Without pain, you said?⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Hold on! You are definitely not alone. Behind the scenes are tons of rejection emails, many opportunities lost and failed attempts.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Experts do cry, they only show you what they decide to show you.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ The truth is:⁣ ⁣ ⁣ In the course of my journey, I've gotten a ton of failures and fears. Most times I feel like quitting but my WHY seems bigger than those temporal issues.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ...

You Don't Need This Slavery To Succeed!

Image
There is something I observed which I'll be addressing today. Let's change the narrative of tagging GLORIFIED SLAVERY as the best path to success. The world is changing. The competition about who is suffering more should not be your standard for measuring success except you like the idea of suffering.  I admit that success doesn't come easily but if there's anything you can do to make life easier for yourself, do it AS LONG AS IT'S NOT ILLEGAL. The other day, I was in a casual conversation with a friend and we got talking about hard work and smart work.  For instance, if you have such a busy weekend and you cannot do your laundry with your hands, using a washing machine shouldn't be seen as luxury but a necessity.  Nobody wins a medal for being the one who has suffered the most. Poverty is a mentality. Poverty mentality often makes people think that they have to suffer first before they get things done. Let's normalise ease. You must not suffer to get things...

Our God Is Able!

When Lazarus died and was buried for 4 days, he was already probably stinking. His sisters had lost hope. It was humanly impossible to bring back to life someone who had started decaying but when Jesus showed up, He spoke and Lazarus who was long dead came back to life.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ To put it into proper perspective, this is what I was able to gather as regards what happens to the human body after death in the first 4 days.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ "24-72 hours after death — the internal organs decompose.⁣ ⁣ 3-5 days after death — the body starts to bloat and blood-containing foam leaks from the mouth and nose." aftermath.com⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Remember, Lazarus was tied and put in a tomb and his body may have decayed faster as higher temperatures increase the rate of decomposition (sorry if you don't understand this😁)⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Now, these are the physical processes that Lazarus' body had gone through. Talk of the spiritual, he may even have been judged because we are told that judgement comes right after death.⁣...

The Two Non-Negotiable Skills

Image
I have always believed that if a thing can be learnt and mastered by anyone, then, I shouldn't give an excuse not to learn.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ This should be the mindset of every young adult who envisions a life of greatness in this era.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Don't be among those saying "English is a borrowed language, it doesn't pay bills, etc." Yes, it's a borrowed language yet you can't write or speak to a mixed audience without it.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Imagine if I were writing to you in my vernacular, how would you have felt? She's writing only to her village people, I guess.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Imagine if you are finally called for that interview and you use your dialect to answer questions from people who don't understand you🤔⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Communication requires social intelligibility. Social intelligibility is the ability to speak and be heard and readily understood by anyone, anywhere irrespective of your nationality, village, etc.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ You see! Two skills are non-negotiable if you desire to go beyond the b...

Recently, something led me to research how birds operate. I noticed one thing about the eagle--one of my favourite birds. Although the eagle is unique and one of the largest birds of prey, birds of all species will always attempt to heckle and harass it as a natural response to fear. According to Kevin McCowan- a bird biologist- "Birds are very territorial, particularly during the summer when their hatchlings are vulnerable. Crows and many birds seem to have a Napoleon complex—the mere presence of a larger bird incites heckling and mobbing." Crows in particular tend to heckle eagles more than most other birds. A crow would sit on the eagle's back and peck at its neck. However, the eagle usually does not respond to or fight it. It conserves its time and energy for its prey and not for the distraction of the crow.  It just opens its wings and begins to fly higher into the sky. The higher the flight, the harder it is for the crow to breathe and so it eventually falls as a re...

Bear The Yoke

Image
📖Lamentation 3:27-33. A yoke is a wooden bar or frame by which two draft animals are joined at the heads or necks for working toy.  It can also mean the state of being an enslaved person. For the purpose of this submission, we will define a Yoke as a process or tool used by God to train, transform and present an individual to the world and His kingdom who will solely serve the purpose of God at all times.  Such a person only seeks the glory of God and not necessarily the applause of men. Dear Young Adult, you were created to bring glory to God and serve His purpose for your generation- Revelation 4:11. For God to use you in fulfilling His purpose, you will be subjected to some process which will require that you relinquish your selfish and ungodly plans to embrace the will and desires of God.  If this process becomes successful for God with you, then only can you manifest God and His glory to your world and generation (lamentation 3:27-33).  The yoke has a se...
