Know God For Yourself!
Dear Young Adult, knowing God for yourself is the very best thing you can do for yourself now that you are young. I am stressing "For yourself" because a lot of us know about the God that we have been told. We know about the God that our pastors talk about in every church service. We know the God that our parents told us about.
Sadly, we do not know this God for ourselves. We know about Him but we do not know Him.
Instead, when we talk about God, we talk about Him based on what we've read and heard about Him and rarely ever from a place of real knowledge and revelation of His person and His being.
Dear Young Adult, You have to get to that point where you are tired of talking about God in the third person. Jesus Culture in their song You Won't Relent, led by Kim Walker Smith, sang these lines:
"I don't wanna talk about You
Like You're not in the room
Wanna look right at You
Wanna sit next to You."
This should be the desire of every heart, especially a young heart. You need to have a conviction of the realness of God because only then will you be able to love Him fully, not blindly practicing religion or playing church. That is the only time He becomes real to you.
Dear Young adult, this is my letter to you because it's the most important part - the part that I missed when I was younger. At 20, I'm relatively young but I wish I knew God personally earlier. I was raised in church: I was in church all through my teenage years and I am still in church now but even though I was in church, I was not in Christ.
There is a difference. I did not experience the power of His salvation. I did not really know what it meant to be born again from experience; I just knew about these things because they are written in the scriptures. The Bible did not come alive to me. I only read the Bible for reading's sake.
Timothy in the Bible, knew God from a very young age and he went on and won souls for the Kingdom. The same goes for Samuel, David and a whole lot of others. Getting started on life with God is a sure way to live a life that is meaningful and fulfilling, not one that is filled with regrets and errors.
Dear Young Adult, knowing God for yourself guides your thoughts and actions. Basically, your life becomes a reflection of the revelation of God that you have received because as we behold Him, we become more like Him. This is the beauty of knowing God for oneself: you simply reflect Christ. You enjoy what I call the "Christ Experience."
Now, how do you know God for yourself? It's this simple: By giving your life to God and letting Him direct your ways. It is as simple as taking the decision to hand over your affairs to Christ and see what He makes of them. Yes, it's that simple. Choosing this minute to let Him take care of you, your needs, your worries, and your past.
Knowing God for yourself at this youthful age is an opportunity many people did not get. It makes your life's journey exciting and such an interesting journey that never ends because it continues even in eternity.
So Dear Young Adult, take this step today and you will have no regrets for the rest of your life.
Rooting For You,
Mary🌺
